New York Times Calls Our Sucking Up of All World Financing "An Addiction"

By Elaine Meinel Supkis

As Americans pile into their huge SUVs that are polluting the planet and go off Xmas shopping using credit courtesy of Asia and Europe both of whom are frantically offering us billions in debt instruments so we will keep on buying their stuff while we lose one factory after another here at home, the NYT calls this "an addiction". Well, I call it "Traitors in America selling us down the river."

From the NYT:

t's an addiction. Every day, the United States sucks in more and more of it from abroad, just to keep the nation going. We speak, of course, about foreign money.

At our current rate of trade and budget deficits, foreigners need to purchase $2 billion in dollar-denominated assets each day just to keep the dollar stable, said Axel Merk, who manages $60 million at Merk Investments and runs the Merk Hard Currency Fund.

Over half the national debt is now financed by foreigners, according to Roger Ibbotson, chairman of the financial consulting firm Ibbotson Associates in Chicago and a professor at Yale School of Management. That's been true since 1980, but the difference now, he says, "is the scale of the game."

"I guess everyone wants to keep this game going," Ibbotson said. But if one of the countries we're most dependent on drops out, it could be "like a bank run."
When empires fall apart financially, the whole world trade systems collapse. It happened to the Spanish empire. It happened to the British Empire. It will happen to our empire. Anyone who knows anything about history minus the stupid propaganda points (like pretending we were fighting for democracy during WWII) knows that when an empire reaches its apex it nearly always goes into a financial frenzy, building palaces and stadiums, getting more and more reckless with their currency, wild military exploits that bring home no spoils, only corrupting the empire further. Diminishing returns on a shrinking market as the distant provinces demand support. All empires react by pulling back but only after they go bankrupt and it is pointless.

Why is the interest rate in Japan so pathetic? They have inflation. They import 100% of their oil, for example. Yet they are flourishing while our economy is on the ropes, kept alive only by history's biggest spending spree. One last time, we rush to the stores to buy stuff we no longer make. Once more, we fall into the same, stupid trap. As the sun sets on our empire, we send our leader (snark) abroad to be insulted and laughed at, a caged bear with a begging bowl, covered with fleas. Even now, the lesser provinces like Israel and Poland, drags on our diplomacy, demand we pay them tribute, not the other way around.

We now pay the highest interest rates in the world and the money we print like crazy comes flowing back home in a tidalwave of red ink. We then shoot this into our arm to feel no pain and to feel invincible even as our health declines and we are obviously in serious trouble. I have known heroin addicts. None of them made it past their 40th birthdays. Over doses, shoot outs during bungled muggings or break-ins. Committing ever graver crimes and getting less and less a hit off of a shot.

Spending all their time looking for horse.

Dead. And this is what America will be, financially, when we can no longer demand the entire planet feed our frenetic addiction. Our desire is bottomless. The bottom line isn't infinity.

Cradle of Humanity, the Rift Zone in Africa, Opens Wider After This Week's Earthquake

By Elaine Meinel Supkis

Scientists locate new major fissure in the earth developing rapidly where humanity first walked, in the Somali/Ethiopian rift valley. Saudi Arabia is acting like a great knife, shaving off East Africa which is curling around the Middle Eastern landmass.

Probable future of coastline of Africa, give or take 10 million years.
From Yahoo:
Ethiopian, American and European researchers have observed a fissure in a desert in the remote northeast that could be the "birth of a new ocean basin," scientists said Friday.

Researchers from Britain, France, Italy and the U.S. have been observing the 37-mile long fissure since it split open in September in the Afar desert and estimate it will take a million years to fully form into an ocean, said Dereje Ayalew, who leads the team of 18 scientists studying the phenomenon.

The fissure, now 13 feet wide, formed in just three weeks after a Sept. 14 earthquake in a barren region called Boina, some 621 miles north east of the capital, Addis Ababa, said Dereje.
It is almost the anniversary of one of the greatest quakes registered by modern equipment. It was major in many ways, the numbers of people killed, the destruction, the changes in the earth's geology. It was not only great on the Richter Scale, it was huge on length, opening a rift over 150 miles long under the ocean running alongside Indonesia.

So now another rift valley drops deeper, as the rest of the crust readjusts. There are several rift valleys on the earth, they are easily located because they are below sea level. Death Valley, the Dead Sea and the Rift Valley in Africa are the major rift valleys and all seem poised to gape even deeper this year. Of course, I am talking again about the inevitable San Andreas quake as California readjusts. There is no avoiding this hazard.

Japan has been having the shakes. Volcanoes are sprining into action such as the one on the small island of the Vanatu chain. It, too, is only a matter of time, five years or less, for a major eruptiion somewhere. Even St. Helen's has hiccupped this year.

Here are some interesting maps speculating about future tectonic plate movements:
From History of the Universe

This shows one possibility with Australia pushing into Alaska. This is far, far future stuff. Here is another map from University of Texas
Neither of these seem right to me. I believe Australia will cartwheel into Japan. Why? Here is a map I drew showing rift valleys and places where the continental pressure is squeezing everything upwards.

If the Mediterranean basin is going to disappear and the Alps rise like the Himalayans, this upwelling will extend across Russia. India will continue to push into Asia but since it has slowed down, the activity is moving to the China Sea which is shrinking, not growing, namely, Australia is already crowding the neighborhood and will increasingly do this until the last drop of water is wrung out in another 100 million years.

By then, we probably won't care much about sea lane changes!

A movie from Berkeley where you can play with tectonic plate movements in your spare time.

As Americans Tell China, Stop Killing Peasants, We Kill Peasants in Muslim Lands

By Elaine Meinel Supkis

The NYT name for the photo here is "Desert Protectors" as we see our storm troopers herding helpless, dirt poor peasants into a helicopter to be flown to some horrible place to be tortured. Meanwhile, the same American press hisses at China for killing dirt poor peasants!

From the NYT:

On the final day of a town-to-town military sweep in November along the Euphrates River, hundreds of men in Ar Rabit, a farming village, were rousted from their homes by American and Iraqi troops and shepherded into long rows on a harvested cornfield.

With the help of a group of locally recruited informants, most with their faces concealed by balaclavas and scarves, the troops pulled 12 suspected insurgents from the lineup, bound them in handcuffs and blindfolds, and took them away.
The Nazis did this a lot. So did the Japanese when they tried to subdue China. This is typical. We find quislings willing to turn in neighbors and then we do the dirty work. Israel does this which is why such informers are assassinated by outraged Palestinians. Who likes a ratfink? Especially one working for an alien invading force? Eh? Would you want your neighbors dropping dimes on you if you were against some invader? Look at France during WWII!

Meanwhile, in China, the poor peasants resisting the loss of land are being shut down and shut up. They will be, like the peasants in Iraq, severely punished for defying the capitalist authorities who steal from peasants whenever possible, they being poor and helpless! From Yahoo:

Armed with guns and shields, hundreds of riot police sealed off a southern Chinese village after fatally shooting as many as 20 demonstrators and were searching for the protest organizers, according to villagers and a newspaper report Saturday.

If that death toll is confirmed it would be the deadliest known use of force by security forces against Chinese civilians since the killings around Tiananmen Square in 1989, and marked an escalation in the social protests that have convulsed the Chinese countryside.

During the demonstration Tuesday in Dongzhou, a village in southern Guangdong province, thousands of people gathered to protest the amount of money offered by the government as compensation for land to be used to construct a wind power plant.
You know, if anyone in America dares throw molotov cocktails and bricks at cops when protesting, they too, are shot dead. Instantly. All you have to do is march in the wrong place and stop traffic and the cops will smash your head in and beat you to a pulp here! We are so cowed, we just shuffle from place to place, seeking refuge, hoping by moving we will find Shangri La La Land and all will be well and we will win the lottery. The government here has put in place anti-consitutional laws to insure a rock solid police state if we do balk like these poor peasants.

As the budding new Soviet State of America, we are picking up all those nifty KGB tools and forging relationships nearly identical to the KGB ones Eastern Europe loved so much. From Alert Net:

Poland was the heart of the CIA's secret detention network in Europe until recently, an analyst of the U.S.-based Human Rights Watch organisation was quoted as telling a Polish newspaper.

"Poland was the main base for CIA interrogations in Europe, while Romania played more of a role in the transfer of detained prisoners," analyst Marc Garlasco was quoted on Friday by Polish daily Gazeta Wyborcza as saying in an interview.

He said the allegations were based on information from CIA sources and other documents obtained by Human Rights Watch. "We have leads, circumstantial evidence to check but it's too early to reveal them," Garlasco said.
Poland is asking for more money so we can run their military for them and in return they will help us torture Muslim peasants and the intelligensia working with the peasants. America has killed off any form of left wing activity in Muslim lands, note the mess in Egypt! The "elections" there turned into a total farce as the only remaining opposition to the American/Israeli puppet prime minister is the fearful Muslim Brotherhood who, unlike Nassar, are religious right wingers and are now wildly popular compared to the ruler of Egypt, a hopelessly corrupt man who depends of billions in American money to keep in power. Like all the others, he oppresses peasants. Looking at pictures of the military attacking voters in Egypt, desperately trying to prevent them from voting or going to rallies or anything, it is obvious who the "enemy" is: Peasants.

Across the planet, the peasants are on the move, quite literally. In South America, as real elections happen, more and more people supporting the needs and desires of these peasants are rising in power. As the American empire concentrates on oppressing dirt poor peasants in Muslim lands, the iron control over peasants in South America is slipping. From Euronews:
Chile's presidential election campaign has drawn to a close with polls showing the country could be about to vote in its first woman leader.

Leftist candidate Michelle Bachelet is leading in surveys, although she may not get the 50 per cent of votes needed to avoid a run-off ballot in January.

The doctor, who is a former defence minister, was imprisoned and tortured during the Pinochet dictatorship.

She has campaigned on a promise to continue the free-market reforms and social programmes of President Ricardo Lagos, who cannot run for re-election this time around.
The goal of any oppressive regime is to detatch the intelligensia from the peasants. Successful social change only happens when the two join together. In Egypt, since the rulers snuffed out liberalism, only radicalized religious activists remain on the battlefront for the rulers dare not suppress them or there will be instant rebellion so they try to co-opt it all. From the Chicago Tribune:
Police barricaded polling stations and fired tear gas and rubber bullets Wednesday to keep supporters of the banned Muslim Brotherhood from voting in the final day of parliamentary elections. At least eight people were killed, including a 14-year-old boy.

Supporters of the banned Brotherhood fought back, hurling stones and Molotov cocktails and cornering security forces in some towns.

The last day of the vote, which stretched over a month, was by far the most violent. At least 10 people have been killed during the three rounds of balloting, which began Nov. 9 and are considered a key test of President Hosni Mubarak's pledge to open the autocratic political system.

Hundreds have been wounded and more than 1,000 arrested, mainly supporters of the banned fundamentalist Brotherhood, which has fielded candidates as independents.
In Egypt, it is obvious a revolution of some kind is going to happen if things continue the way they are going. Namely, the religious peasants gain nothing by supporting the regime at this point so open rebellion is flaring spontaneously and will only increase over time. The military is still willing to shoot unarmed peasants but they are on the verge of switching sides, this always happens very suddenly, the rulers of Egypt will command they shoot peasants and suddenly, the officers are shot dead and the troops storm the palace. I expect this to happen within the next ten years unless liberalism is extended again, haha. As if. The last thing America wants are pesky peasants actually voting.

Back to Iraq, it disgusts me to see our military reduced to stomping on rag-tag men wearing rags. The world's biggest empire, trembling with fear in front of these determined but tremendously poor people, disgusts me. Far from being proud, it sickens me.

But then, history is a long chronicle of the well fed, well dressed stomping on the hungry, those dressed in rags. I recall Jesus talking about all this. I remember, he was on the side of the ragged peasants, not the rich. Camels through needles and all that stuff.

Which brings us to the entire "Peace on Earth, Good Will Towards Man" stuff. Christmas stuff. Stuff the right wing hates. The war against Christmas is also the war against the peasants.

Wanderlustige Earth's Magnetic Pole Picks Up Pace, Heading To Siberia

By Elaine Meinel Supkis

Not only is Santa Claus losing his elven workshop as the ice melts in the Arctic, his candy cane pole has developed a serious case of wanderlust and is hiking rapidly towards Sibera. The reindeer prefer Lapland, of course. This is quite a conflict.

From Yahoo:
Earth's north magnetic pole is drifting away from North America and toward Siberia at such a clip that Alaska might lose its spectacular Northern Lights in the next 50 years, scientists said Thursday.

Despite accelerated movement over the past century, the possibility that Earth's modestly fading magnetic field will collapse is remote. But the shift could mean Alaska may no longer see the sky lights known as auroras, which might then be more visible in more southerly areas of Siberia and Europe.
If God is an intelligent designer, wouldn't he make Santa's job easier? I mean, capriciously moving the North Pole around forcing poor Santa to spend many precious hours trying to find his home base that just won't stay put! Off he flies on Christmas Eve only to come home and find no sign of the candy striped NP marker nor his wife or even Ruddy the Red!

Or maybe, Rudy is"Red"? A secret agent for the nacent communists in Russia?

Actually, it is very interesting, this awry polar circumanvigation. After all, like my property lines are being screwed up by this north polar preambulations. Border disputes are breaking out as we claim this tree or that rock, using our compasses to track where the imaginary lines were drawn back in 1785! Border disputes can start wars and if my property line is wavering, you can imagine the mess going on elsewhere! After all, I detailed how Congress is messing around with the designated lines for the Arctic Wildlife Reserve!

There are other effects, too, namely, what is going on in our planet? Why does this happen? Do we really understand what is at work here? Will it happen soon? Will it screw up our computers and such if it suddenly switches poles? Will the Australians get to call themselves "Northerners" while Canadians pretend to be the far south? What will the South say in the USA? "We won the Civil War because we are the North!"????

It will be a hellacious mess.

Computer similation of magnetic forces

From APOD:

Paleomagnetic records indicate that the geomagnetic field has existed for at least three billion years. However, based on the size and electrical conductivity of the Earth's core, the field, if it were not continually being generated, would decay away in only about 20,000 years since the temperature of the core is too high to sustain permanent magnetism. In addition, paleomagnetic records show that the dipole polarity of the geomagnetic field has reversed many times in the past, the mean time between reversals being roughly 200,000 years with individual reversal events taking only a couple thousand years.

These observations argue for a mechanism within the Earth's interior that continually generates the geomagnetic field. It has long been speculated that this mechanism is a convective dynamo operating in the Earth's fluid outer core, which surrounds its solid inner core, both being mainly composed of iron. The solid inner core is roughly the size of the moon but at the temperature of the surface of the sun. The convection in the fluid outer core is thought to be driven by both thermal and compositional buoyancy sources at the inner core boundary that are produced as the Earth slowly cools and iron in the iron-rich fluid alloy solidifies onto the inner core giving off latent heat and the light constituent of the alloy. These buoyancy forces cause fluid to rise and the Coriolis forces, due to the Earth's rotation, cause the fluid flows to be helical. Presumably this fluid motion twists and shears magnetic field, generating new magnetic field to replace that which diffuses away.
The sun has a very active magnetic field. One wonders about the intense core of the sun, that stubborn part that, when a star blows up or flares out, which remains behind, non-gaseous, spinning at a mad rate, producing little or no light but having a gravitational pool that makes escape from the surface nearly impossible. The act of dying, the final explosion, propels gas outwards but no rocket traveler dares approach the surface of even the smallest dead star!

The dense core of the earth bumping and shoving on the fluid mantle which is shielded by vast oceans of H2O: part of the whole concept of a "living earth" as a hyper-entity which has a sense of growing and changing that is amazing. Even an "intelligent designer" would be hard put to imagine something as variable, odd, bizarre and interesting as our home world. Gads.

I wish we took better care of this place. And when Santa is forced to relocate to the South Pole, he will have to use penguins or kangaroos to pull his sledge, won't he? Rudolf the red nosed penguin. La la la.

Shell Oil and Others Sued For Wasting Gas In Nigeria

By Elaine Meinel Supkis

The big oil companies simply burn off natural gas in Africa because they don't want to bother with sharing it with the African people. Most of the oil in Africa is removed and used by Europe and America. We have zero interest in bettering the lives of African people. Worse, we pollute their air and water and intend to squeeze them dry and leave them in poverty. Meanwhile, it is cold here in the north. Give us more energy, world!

From Common Dreams:
Multinational oil companies were ordered by Nigeria's highest court this week to stop engaging in a decades-old process that indigenous and environmental rights groups say has been poisoning the oil-rich area where Africa's Niger River meets the Atlantic Ocean.

Gas flaring dominates the skyline in the Niger Delta
"This victory marks a new dawn in the struggle of the communities of the Niger Delta," said Reverend Nnimmo Bassey, executive director of the Nigerian group Environmental Rights Action, soon after the Federal High Court announced its judgment Monday against the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria. The decision is expected to have far-reaching implications for the local activities of ChevronTexaco, ExxonMobil, and other multinational oil giants as well.

"We expect this judgment to be respected and that for once the oil corporations will accept the truth and bring their sinful flaring activities to a halt," Bassey added.

The case was brought by the indigenous Iwerekan community in Delta State, with support from the Environmental Rights Action group affiliated with Friends of the Earth (FoE) International, a federation of environmental campaigners that claims 1.5 million members and supporters in 70 countries.
If you look at satellite photos of Africa at night, it is truly "the Dark Continent" which only Antarctica and Greenland can compete with innermost Africa for "most dark."

To see the actual photos, visit APOD.

Nigeria is a prime example of how oil companies can pervert and abuse natives if they latch onto the government. The CIA as well as our military has worked long and hard to prevent any Caesar Chavezes from taking power in Nigeria. The few times non-military men ran the place, they used the oil company's bribes to buy gold bathtubs and live in palaces. Then the people there rise up in fury and the goverment supresses rebellions using brutal force and the game goes on, civic life nearly nonexistent in that country as the wealth hemmorages out.

The Iraqis see this and know they are next. Ditto, Iran. Any oil pumping country that dares to share the wealth or make the lives of their people better by expanding education and building a serious infrastructure to make them independent of oil is crushed brutally. This is why Shell Oil, for example, burns off precious gas rather than pipe it to people there. To build the infrastructure to service these people costs money and frankly, the rich oil consuming nations have decided they don't want to be bothered!

Meanwhile, here in America, we writhe in pain due to high energy costs caused by weather and war. From the Albany Times Union:
Prices of wood pellets have gone through the roof over the past few months because of a number of factors, including the demand of more people turning to wood to avoid oil and natural gas costs, which have risen by double digit percentages the past two years.

Even at the high prices, many retailers can't get enough of the pellets. Local big box stores don't even have them. Small mom-and-pops might. Specialty energy supply houses could. Yet, wherever and whenever available, the price has risen by $100-$150 a ton in just a few months, and it is not necessarily a first-come, first-serve sale anymore.

"They won't even sell them to you if you haven't bought your stove from them," Denmark says about supply outlets he's tried. "They say, 'We're taking care of our customers first.' "
I got my kids a pellet stove and now we can't run the darn thing. This is annoying for us all but not near the ill will of seeing massive amounts of gas being burned off (which incidentally, increases global hydrocarbon pollution!) for no good reason.

The factories producing stove pellets will catch up, eventually, with demand. Of course, it won't be a cheap fuel anymore, all BTUs end up costing the same due to people switching over. But at least for now, we can switch! What troubles me is how Shell Oil and the other oil companies can get away with literally burning up the wealth of Nigeria and think no one can stop them.

Personally, I avoid Shell oil. Citco is part of Venezuela's system so I support them by buying their products. I suggest we all do this.

The Chickadee Empire Demands More Tributes

By Elaine Meinel Supkis

Recently, my mountain has been invaded by the Chickadee Horde. They raid my bird feeder, flying off with sunfower seeds, one per beak, they sit on the tree outside my office window and right in front of me, they pick open the hard seed shells with their tiny, sharp beaks. If I get close to the window, they yell, "Chicka-dee-dee-dee!" as loud as possible and raise their tiny black caps a whole 1/2" which is so terrifying, I rush to the store to buy them more seeds. We cannot be intimidated by them! Where is the National Guard? The cats?

From Google:
It isn’t large birds of prey that the chickadees fear most, though. “Smaller predators are more maneuverable, and they’re the only ones that can really catch a chickadee,” Templeton says. His team showed that small raptors like pygmy owls prompted an average of 3 and a half extra dees—and as many as 23. The great gray owl, which has a wingspan four times larger than the pygmy owl’s, elicited only an extra half dee on average. The same trend also held when Templeton introduced a cat and a ferret, which both eat birds, but not when he added a small yet harmless bobwhite quail, which suggests that chickadees base their calls on more than size.

The biologists also found that the more dees in an alarm cry, the larger the mob of other chickadees that formed to attack the intruder and the closer they approached in their attacks. “The more closely we look at animal calls, the more information we find,” Templeton says. “It’s surprising and really exciting to know that there is such sophisticated information being passed along in the calls you can hear almost every day.”
See? The Chickdee Imperial Attack code has been cracked by scientists! Now we know what they are saying and we can disrupt their evil plans to take over bird feeders and leave empty seed shells all over the side deck. The CIA plans are now accessible online to anyone who wishes to understand how to prepare for and withstand the attacks, right?

So far, I feed them more and more seeds but the ungrateful birds simply eat them all and then will perch on the iron railing of the porch and make such noise I can't ignore them. Maybe they use psychological warfare like puffing up and looking as sad as possible with their beady black eyes watching their victim closely. Once I yield to them and come out to feed them, they mob the feeder and resume chickadeeing me as if I am some blundering oaf.

Well, looks like the National Guard is all in Iraq or sitting around bases here, listening to Cheney lie about things in Iraq so they won't save me or my dogs from the terrifying terrorist birds, those itsy bitty freeloaders, the Chickadees.

Housing Boom Bombs, Up to 800,000 May Lose Jobs, Homes, Everything

By Elaine Meinel Supkis

I have been very busy running around, getting everyone ready for this deadly winter, trying to help everyone deal with the high cost of energy, didn't post about this nice story. Well, the obvious is going to obviously happen: our Japanese-sponsored property bubble is popping! Japan's economy took off, our will now deflate. They successfully transfered a mountain of bad Japanese property loans to us! Now we get to have a depression/inflation thanks to high fuel costs denominated in dollars, not yen.

From Yahoo:
A sustained decline will hit the U.S. housing market next year, costing the nation as many as 800,000 jobs, according to a new economic report released Wednesday.

The slowdown is likely to last several years, with as many as 500,000 construction jobs and 300,000 financial sector positions lost, the quarterly Anderson Forecast predicted.

"We expect housing to start slowing the economy this quarter or the next," said Edward Leamer, director of the study done at the University of California, Los Angeles.

"Some jobs in manufacturing might well disappear as a result of weakness in housing, but this may be offset by jobs brought home or not lost to foreign competition," he wrote.

The forecast said eight of the last 10 economic recessions were started by housing market slowdowns. Though the coming cooldown will cause a drag on the nation's economy, it will fall short of triggering a recession, the forecast said.
The temporary job boom in trash hauling/sheetrock removing jobs the hurricanes spawned upped the employment figures this fall but most of these jobs fell to illegals who jumped our borders. On the manufacturing front, this fall has been a deadly tsunami of pink slips and as xmas approaches with the same fury and malice as the hurricanes, we see desperation shopping as people pretend January's fuel bills won't bankrupt them. All housing booms end in busts. This is a simple rule. If you look at the value of property, it rises and falls like a mighty ocean. The higher it rises, the nastier the fall.

Some places, because of population rises, keep going up like California. Of course, a really nasty earthquake which is a very reasonable event to expect, will kill this market, too. People will, like in the seventies, try to flee the cold north because heating costs will be killing them. I already see this at work here in my own community. Many homes for sale as the people in them attempt to flee but there are precious few takers right now and prices are now declining relentlessly. Everyone who can wants to bail.

I don't fear winter because I own my own energy heating system, my forest. But the stresses of global warming is taking a toll on my fine trees. Nearly all of the over 100 year old maples are dying rapidly. The saplings and younger maples barely hanging on. This is quite distressing. We all live in the same system and stresses in one sector reemerge elsewhere as some other force. The deep south without the energy bubble is a terribly hard place to live in when summer shines brutally. Most people can't live without airconditioning.

In Doha, the UAE, they built a snow resort that is inside a huge tube where they can go skiing while the temperature outside soars past 120 degrees. The ultimate energy bubble for the sporting youth who own the oil wells we need.

The developing housing crash will be most spectacular since nearly all our buying fenzy of the last four years came from tapping the inflation in home values and spending it on goodies. Since interest rates were well below real inflation, this magic money scheme seemed eternal. Of course, we should have questioned why no society on earth managed to run like this for more than five years. A sober look at history tells us that this scheme always blows up in the faces of the investors and lenders and leads to depressions and revolutions.

Greenspan knows this. Barneke knows this. Heck, even Bush learned this at Harvard! I knew this when I was around 11 years old, listening to adults talk about this stuff. Since so many people are aware of this history, why did they all pretend it doesn't apply to today? Why?

Heh. The key to the criminal mind! Arrest them all. Con artists are regularily sent to prison!

Very Cold, Now Snow Coming, Price of Energy Jumps

By Elaine Meinel Supkis

In Iraq, in China, lowly peasants, people of the land, lowly workers, people without power directly engage in battles with people who want to steal their pitiful belongings, steal their land, steal their resources, steal their culture. This hamfisted violence is causing more and more retaliatory fighting which is threatening the power and control of the planet by the world's biggest empires. And lurking in the background is more potential uprisings, anger about the Hubbert Oil Peak effects.

From Yahoo:
Despite President Bush's optimism on Iraq's reconstruction, the country appears set to pump less crude in 2005 than last year's disappointing showing and far less than under Saddam Hussein.

The only bright spot for Iraq's oil sector, hampered by unrelenting insurgent attacks on its infrastructure, is that near-record oil prices have softened the blow by boosting export earnings.

"The general integrity of Iraqi oil infrastructure appears to us to be heading backwards rather than forwards," London-based Barclay's Capital said in a report issued Thursday.
Great. Because of the stupid war, Iraq pumps less oil but this it OK because the lack of oil means prices can go through the roof so the ever important profit magins of the oil giants is doing just fantastic! The money is literally pouring into their laps! Hoozah!

Of course, world oil prices shot up this week because a big nasty blizzard is coming to my house. Hoozah again. I watched the jet stream make a deep detour over California and said, "By Friday, we will be dumped." And sure enough, this southern route storm is going to mess things up just great here. More reason for all those oil buddies of Bush to have a very merry xmas/holiday. They can close their mega churches because Jesus loves them and not us Northeasterners.

Oil For Bronx Poor is a Foreign Gift
Santa Claus, make way for Santa Chavez
by Juan Gonzalez

Poor residents and nonprofit groups in the South Bronx are about to receive
a huge Christmas gift from Venezuela's firebrand President Hugo Chavez:
Eight-million gallons of heating oil at bargain-basement prices.
Two months ago, in an interview with the Daily News during his visit to the
United Nations, Chavez first made the startling offer of cheap fuel for this
winter from his oil-rich country to a handful of poor communities in the
United States.

At the time, critics of the radical populist Chavez, the Bush
administration's biggest nemesis in South America, scoffed at his proposal.
But the Venezuelan leader is about to deliver.

"The first shipments of low-cost fuel from CITGO will begin arriving in my
district by late next week," U.S. Rep. Jose Serrano (D-South Bronx) said
I am hoping Santa Cheney will leave me coal for xmas. I will be very naughty and nasty. Braaack. F-you, Cheney, now where is that coal?

Of course, the energy crisis as we drive up and up the Hubbert Oil Peak, grows greater and greater. In China on a daily basis, the poor men who plunge into those black death-traps die hideous deaths, 100 at a time, even today, more died, they drown, they suffocate, they burn in explosions. Meanwhile, in Iraq, many die too, in explosions and suffocation, torture. As the energy bubble people who desire endless energy murder and stomp on helpless people, we want more, we need more! And the bodies pile up.

From Mehr News:
The Chairman of the Majlis Energy Commission, Kamal Daneshyar said here, on Friday, that preparatory measures have been taken to sell oil in euros instead of dollar, adding that such a measure is quite positive and should be taken as soon as possible.
Speaking to the Persian service of Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA), he went on to say that Iran should at the first phase sell its oil in both Dollar and Euro, and then gradually move toward Euro as the mere source.

As for the probable consequences of such a decision, Daneshyar said that when such a measure is taken, the United States would soon realize that it is not the one who can always inflict economic damages on the Islamic Republic and that Iran can also get even with it.
The Europeans don't want their currency tied to oil any more than the Japanese want the yen tied to the yuan as it rises. Everyone uses currency to play games, not to sustain fair trade! Of all people, America needs everyone to remove the dollars we print and store them either overseas, in bonds that won't be sold ever on the open market or in gold which is shooting up in price as we shovel our inflation overseas.

The price of BTUs continues relentlessly climbing. All BTU forms go up and up. Firewood, coal, pellets, electricity, you name it. The price of killing peasants is going through the roof. The Pentagon made noises today that staying the course will cost us another $100 billion this year. Already, Congress must vote for another $50 billion for this damn war. They cut $50 billion from American welfare/education/health programs and to celebrate this, gave themselves a pay raise which the press barely mentioned and of course this: From the NYT:
The House of Representatives today passed the last and biggest piece of a total of $95 billion in tax cuts, a move that reflects both the ambition of House Republicans leaders and their willingness to let the budget deficit widen in years to come.

The bill passed by a vote of 234 to 197. It extends a long list of tax cuts at a cost of $56 billion over five years. The biggest provision would extend President Bush's 2001 tax cut for stock dividends and capital gains for two years at a cost of $20 billion.
We are going bankrupt. I see no sanity anywhere in Congress or our other rulers who seem bent on destroying us just as they recklessly cause the deaths of thousands of peasants all over the earth. Speaking of which, unlike the American peasantry who are all in a fog about gays kissing and what to call that pagan wonder, the Tannenbaum, are fighting back in true hand to hand combat. From the Washington Post:

Washington PestParamilitary police and anti-riot units here have opened fire with pistols and automatic rifles for the past two nights on rioting farmers and fishermen who have attacked them with gasoline bombs and explosive charges, according to residents of this small coastal village.

The sustained volleys of gunfire, unprecedented in a wave of peasant uprisings over the past two years in China, have killed between 10 and 20 villagers and injured more, residents said. The count was uncertain, they said, because a number of villagers have disappeared and it is not known for sure whether they were killed, wounded or driven into hiding.

The tough response by black-clad riot troops and People's Armed Police in camouflage fatigues deviated sharply from previous government tactics against the spreading unrest in Chinese villages and industrial suburbs.
Peasant unrest, as I keep pointing out, is a healthy sign. Unlike here, when the government seizes property or pollutes or in general, runs riot, people bellyache but they bow to the superior power and quietly retreat. The good people of New Orleans, scattered hither and yon, have driven out FEMA from the destroyed remains of their neighborhoods but this doesn't do a bit of good as FEMA frankly is looking to leave, anyway, and blame them. The rest of America shrugs their shoulders. Tough luck.

Pure capitalism is raising hell in the Chinese countryside as well as underground. Classically, when these forces team up with the teeming workers in the cities, we get revolutions. Every time. Trust me on this. This is a sign of energetic populations. Meanwhile, Ford and GM announced they are closing many American factories. Merk was made the same announcement today. All over, all I see are announcements of workers with good jobs being kicked to the curb. Yet the media and the lunatics in DC all scream the economy is doing just great, all we have to do is cut more taxes and go shopping more!

Insane. No one can buy a revolution. They just happen. Like a mine explosion. Boom.

Mega Churches Close Christmas Sunday To Stay Home for Pagan Parties

By Elaine Meinel Supkis

Christmas had zero to do with giving yourself and your immediate family presents unless one is an unreformed pagan celebrating Saturnalia. Even they didn't do it this way, the slaves were allowed to pretend to be masters on Saturnalia, for example, and Christians used this time to hand out alms to the poor. Today, we learn that a number of Mega Churches aren't even going to open on Sunday so they can stay home and perform various neo-paganistic rites of gluttony and self indulgence. This is how they are fighting Jesus!

From Yahoo:

This Christmas, no prayers will be said in several megachurches around the country. Even though the holiday falls this year on a Sunday, when churches normally host thousands for worship, pastors are canceling services, anticipating low attendance on what they call a family day.

Critics within the evangelical community, more accustomed to doing battle with department stores and public schools over keeping religion in Christmas, are stunned by the shutdown.

It is almost unheard of for a Christian church to cancel services on a Sunday, and opponents of the closures are accusing these congregations of bowing to secular culture.

"This is a consumer mentality at work: `Let's not impose the church on people. Let's not make church in any way inconvenient,'" said David Wells, professor of history and systematic theology at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, a leading evangelical school in Hamilton, Mass. "I think what this does is feed into the individualism that is found throughout American culture, where everyone does their own thing."
It is much worse. It is exactly what the entire Jesus business isn't about: self indulgence. The same howlers who attend these heretical houses of worship are the same people leaning on us to harrass and discriminate against gays, hate Muslims and despise all other religions, they are working day and night to make us uncomfortable and unhappy because we won't worship the bizarre antichrist they all kneel in front of every week except Christmas Sunday.

It is telling that the hordes of fake Christians boycott their own churches on the High Holy Days. I remember how we did it in the Luthern Church: nighttime services on Christmas Eve, our parents sternly telling us there is no Santa Claus, then Christmas morning, well, Lutherns didn't do the gift opening that morning. You EXCHANGED gifts the night before, long before that old pagan, Santa Claus, supposedly magically appeared. And when exchanging, you give thanks, more, you must give at least as much to the poor, and believe me, we did that in spades.

"Jesus and his mother and father were homeless," my mother would say before sweeping out of the house with baskets of food and clothing and toys for poor children. In my mind to this day, she is the true Santa Claus!

The entire Christian religion is going through one of its usual antichristian moments. Always, when claiming to be moved by Jesus, this coincides with murderous rampages like the Crusades or the Reformation/Inquisition mess that killed nearly a third of the people in Central Europe, or the spreading of Christianity in the New World which ended up killing 90% of the natives on way or another! A bloody mess.

Very unchristian. So just remember: they are all fakers. They really hate Jesus as much as they hate any liberals who talk about feeding the poor, healing the sick or helping the lame. These people are the first to work Tiny Tim's dad in China to death just so they can buy cheap toys for their own children.

Bah, humbug. Pass the Wasshail and drink hearty!

Thugs Attack Kansas Professor--They Believe They Can't Evolve

By Elaine Meinel Supkis

A professor at the University of Kansas was attacked on a back road by thugs outraged at him talking about "Christians", mocking them for their childish belief in a fantasy world where gods create things out of thin air and then kill everything out of spite. They don't want anyone to mock them while they ran around acting like bezerk lunatics. Christian thugs have been ruining our holidays, ruining schools, ruining everything they latch onto, especially poor Jesus.

From Yahoo:
A college professor whose planned course on creationism and intelligent design was canceled after he derided Christian conservatives said he was beaten by two men along a rural road early Monday.

University of Kansas religious studies professor Paul Mirecki said the men referred to the class when they beat him on the head, shoulders and back with their fists, and possibly a metal object, the Lawrence Journal-World reported.

"I didn't know them," Mirecki said of his assailants, "but I'm sure they knew me."
Ah, Kansas! KU is where I went to college for one summer. It was exciting, filled to the brim with tornadoes, lightning strikes, the death (dark doings) of a student in the auditorium which eventually was burned down by lightning strikes (grrrr). What a place! It pretty much changed my life! To me, Kansas is like some sort of churning darkness of the soul, something in that sunny place runs like an icy breath, I think there is a great number of things wrong, spiritually, with Kansas. I saw it face to face, during a violent thunderstorm.

Maybe it is because it is not only the center of the USA, it is held up by cynical manipulators as "real America." I remember Bob the Lobbyist Dole ranting about how great Kansas was and how he just couldn't wait to return to that place. He told the people there, they were superior, spiritually, to those evil doers in New York or California. He made it sound like he and all his fellow worshippers of money and power just couldn't wait to run home to dear old Kansas, the state he supposedly loved and represented.

Well, he turned tail and ran like hell. To demonic DC. He can't stand Kansas for even five minutes. They all hate Kansas. This is why the place struggles to keep its young. They leave as soon as humanly possible. And the people making life unbearable in Kansas don't understand, few people want to live around them, they make life really miserable.

Lawrence is a lovely burg. I loved a number of things there. It is an island of liberality in a sea of reactionaries. Watching the right wing lunatics destroy KU is annoying but not surprizing. Since they prize stupidity, it is obvious, one has to intimidate anyone who challenges stupidity. We all see this with Bush and his lunatics. They scream at us, threaten us, attack everyone, they murderously kill thousands of people and torture many people just to get us to go along with their insane, destructive, idiotic world views! The river of blood doesn't bother them, us talking back drives them nuts!

Imagine if gangs of lefties roamed about America, beating up and torturing conservatives. Calling for the headquarters of the Hudson Institute to be blown up or blowing up mega churches! Just setting fire to some Humvees sends the right wing nuts in the FBI over the wall! The US Attorney General singling out some minor eco groups as top terrorists!

Since nearly the entire state apparatus is behind the right wing they feel emboldened to not only talk trash and threats, they carry them out with impunity.
Mirecki had referred to religious conservatives as "fundies," and said a course describing intelligent design as mythology would be a "nice slap in their big fat face." He has apologized for those comments.
Right wing fundies like the odious O'Reilly can call for the destruction of San Francisco or whip up fenzies of hate towards civilized citizens who want to have a happy holiday, Ann Coulter can suggest the NYT building in Manhattan be blown up and this is a-OK but if anyone calls fundies "fundies", they must apologize.

Our Vice President can call war heroes traitors and we are supposed to clap. If anyone says he angled for one deferment after another which caused America to lose the Vietnam war, he blows up. How dare anyone talk about his chicken-shit past!

And this is how the right wing operates: a double standard. Someone states the obvious and they get their classes cancelled, they are beaten up by unevolved thugs and are forced to apologize while violent reactionaries can spout whatever violent claptrap they want and get pay raises and praise! Look at Ann Coulter! She is lionized by Newsweek after making terrorist threats!

You won't see this poor professor lionized. Mauled by lions in the arena, yes.

Gays Spearhead Ford Boycott

By Elaine Meinel Supkis

A right wing Christian group conspired with Ford's executives to cut off all advertising and support of the gay community. After Ford boasted about this, the liberal community struck back, spearheaded by Americablog. The last thing Ford needs is to alienate Ford customers like myself.

From Americablog:
Lie number one is in Ford's recent open letter to its gay and lesbian employee group. It's Ford's description of what the extremist anti-gay hate group was upset about:
"The boycott, the purpose of which was to protest certain Ford marketing activities aimed at the gay and lesbian community, was announced in May and temporarily suspended in June."
In fact, while Ford would have you believe the American Family Association was simply complaining about some ads, in fact the AFA was protesting what it called Ford's support of "gay marriage."
Americablog goes on to detail all the lies, all the evasions, all the negative feedback Ford has resorted to in its attempts at pleasing a bunch of right wing lunatics. Microsoft did this too, withdrawing support for a gay right's bill in Washington. This is one of many reasons why I avoid Microsoft as much as possible.

As the boycott from the liberal side, outraged at Ford's pandering, the Washington Post finally notices something is happening. One would hope Ford stock owners would not sit up and take notice, this is developing into a serious problem, I, for example, own a Ford tractor and a 350 diesel truck. I am very annoyed with them. My side of the boycott can be very serious when I replace the truck in another year!

From the WP:

Ford Motor Co. said it will stop running ads for its Jaguar and Land Rover brands in the gay press, helping to avoid a confrontation with conservative Christians but setting up a fight with gays and lesbians.

The American Family Association, a conservative religious group, launched a boycott of Ford this year for extending marriage benefits to same-sex couples and giving "thousands of dollars to support homosexual groups and their agenda," the group said in written statement. The group criticized Ford for supporting gay commitment ceremonies and gay pride parades.

Ford spokesman Mike Moran said the move to stop advertising Jaguars and Land Rovers in gay publications such as the Advocate was based on a decision to streamline marketing budgets. Moran would not say what other magazine categories might be affected, citing competitive reasons.
Moron Moran thinks he fools us? Har.
"Ford Motor Co. has a big public relations mess on its hands that it needs to clean up in short order," Solmonese said. He said his group is galvanizing its 600,000 members to protest Ford's advertising decision with letters and e-mails.

"Ford has been a friend to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender consumers and employees in the past," the group said in an e-mailed "Action Alert." "E-mail Ford today -- ask them to reject the American Family Association's assertions . . . and reaffirm their support for fairness."

Late yesterday Ford noted in a written statement that it would not change its employment policies: "Ford's commitment to diversity as an employer and corporate citizen remains unchanged. Any suggestion to the contrary is just plain wrong."
If this were so, they would have never met with the right wingers nor issued statements agreeing with the right wingers. But they did and they can't undo this by lying about doing it. This modus operandi of all such people is most annoying. Denying the obvious is nearly impossible today, thanks to bloggers and the internet. We are not nearly so easily appeased as the press simply because we don't accept advertising that much, the less, the better. My blog has zero advertising so I can tell the truth about the economy, for example.

Ford better figure this out before they go bankrupt. They should have told the right wingers, "We want all customers. If one group of customers hate other customers, we can't do anything about this. We take no sides." Right wing Christians want to destroy the holiday season, they want to beggar sales, kill entertainment, destroy cities, all because they hate guys who hang out with each other like Jesus and his 12 buddies who slept together, traveled together, ate together and basically were pretty gay.

Insane, isn't it? Hold corporation's feet to the fire! Don't let them screw us! On any level.

New York Times Can't Puzzle Out Why Japan is Flourishing And We Are Collapsing

By Elaine Meinel Supkis

Of course the NYT won't read my blog or look at my cartoons so they are clueless about the yen/dollar dynamic that eats away at our infrastructure every time we let the yen drop in value. To keep this unhealthy dynamic, the Japanese peddle loans for us which only makes things much worse in the long run! During the Clinton Golden Years, we spurned Japanese loan offers because we were solvent and could keep the value of the yen at 100 or less per dollar. Now it is back to the Bush I value: 130 yen to the dollar! Sinking ship, America!

From the NYT:
New Optimism About the Japanese Economy After a Bleak Decade
No kidding. The boom years when America sailed ahead, optimistic and powerful, balanced budget and prosperity, Japan did terrible! Boy, did they do badly. I remember the eighties. We were all supposed to imitate the Japanese business style. Of course, they left out the important lesson: close the country to free trade at all costs whatever means possible, the trickier the better, and manipulate the currency for trade advantage which also locks out imports!

Clinton and his group, being smart people, increased the value of the yen vis a vis the dollar and forced the Japanese to open their markets. The Japanese responded by committing economic hari-kari and simply shut down. They waited impatiently for another corrupt Ronnie Reagan to bribe and along came Bush and his merry family of thieves! Now Japan is enjoying a very unbalanced trade with America.
College graduates face the best job market in a decade, and wages are rising again. The lead stock market index has doubled in value in two years. Corporate profits are the highest in recent memory. And for the first time since 1990, land prices in Tokyo are up.
Andy Rain/Bloomberg News
Shoppers in the Ginza district of Tokyo are considered more likely to spend money if they see the country's economic prospects as promising.
Could it be that Japan, long the sick man among major global economies, has finally recovered?

This is, after all, the country where the words "gloom" and "malaise" have been used for so long that many Japanese have come to view them as facts of life. Even the upturns, such as they were, proved to be short-lived as Japan was unable to shake off the doldrums it fell into in the early 1990's, when its stock and real estate bubbles burst.

But this time, most economists and analysts agree, the recovery seems to be real, its roots extending through the Japanese economy. After more than a decade of working off excessive debt, bloated payrolls and overbuilt factory capacity, Japan seems to have addressed its bubble-era problems and emerged leaner and more competitive, the economists say. In fact, the economy here is projected to be growing at a faster rate than Europe's this year.
Hahaha. The "lean and mean" hoax raises its ugly head. Why isn't Europe's economy taking off? Guess what happened to the euro! The USA caused the euro to shoot up in value while the Japanese purchased an absolute mountain of endless American red ink and so the dollar increased in value against the yen and decreased against the euro, knocking the European export market for a loop-de-loop while the Japanese ran all over the American import market, increasing the trade deficit we carry by over 11% during the Bush reign of terror.

This is insanity! The article which proports to explain this oddity while not once mentioning currency values and debt loads, except to only talk about how the Japanese "wrote off bad loans" from their real estate/business collapse during the Clinton years...Guess where all those "bad loans" were cleaned up?

Here. We now carry the Japanese load of bad loans, they are our debts now! By devaluing the currency, they could "write off" loans made when the yen was worth 89 to the dollar as 130 yen to the dollar significantly reducing the risk and downside of these loans! On top of this, the loans we get from Japan are at an interest rate of over 4% while they loan each other at 0.1%, a tremendous differencial!

Click here for many charts on Japanese trade.
In recent years, Japan has continued to produce a trade surplus. Regarding Japan's international trade on a customs clearance basis in 2004, exports (FOB-type value) showed an annual increase of 12.1 percent to 61.17 trillion yen, marking the third consecutive year of increase. Imports (CIF-type value) grew by 10.9 percent to 49.22 trillion yen, an increase recorded for the second consecutive year. As a result, Japan's trade surplus increased by 17.3 percent to 11.95 trillion yen -- the third straight year of the growth.
Note the "third straight year." Ever since Bush aggressively and deliberately drove our government into the red, our control over interest rates and the value of the dollar has collapsed. Each year, it gets worse. This hemmoraging of power has only one ending: bankruptcy and poverty. Our nation will sell its soul for a handful of beans.

Look at the charts about major exports. Automobiles: 39% of their auto exports are to the USA and this stat is from last year. This year it is nearly 50%! Anyone yapping at me about how we are building Japanese autos here should hang their heads in shame. As I keep saying, the factories here are all Potemkin enterprises to keep Americans silent and stupid.

Figure 11.5 shows relative trade of Japan with the world. The USA is the most imbalanced by far. Nearly 14,000 billion yen exporting to America and only 6,000 billion importing. Namely, they have a 50% trade advantage over us and it is increasing. Normally, when this state of affairs exists, the currency of the trade winning country rises in value. But not in this case. The greater the trade imbalance/the cheaper the yen.

During the Clinton years, the Japanese had no mechanism to drop the value of the yen because America wasn't printing up dollars at a mad rate. And we were slowly bringing our trade into some sane balance. Now, everything on our end is out of control. Like a drunk buying drink after drink from the bartender, yelling, "Put it on my bill!", we will swill away all our wealth. Our seeming prosperity has been dearly purchased.

Cheney in NY Lying about 9/11 and Bush Tries Speechifying in DC

By Elaine Meinel Supkis

Both Bush and Cheney are desperately trying the same, tired, stupid, obvious lies, a stereoptic blind vision. Bush can't make any speeches after 12 noon because he is incapable of walking or being coherent, I am assuming. Cheney is like that 24/7 so it doesn't matter much when he speaks. He is near my mountain but I couldn't talk to him because he didn't let any citizens anywhere near his military base, the only places he can appear in public these days.

From the Guardian:
Cheney argued differently.

``Some have suggested by liberating Iraq from Saddam Hussein we simply stirred up a hornet's nest. They overlook a fundamental fact: We were not in Iraq in September 2001 and the terrorists hit us anyway.''

If the U.S. suddenly pulled out of Iraq, ``that nation would return to the rule of tyrants, become a massive source of instability in the Middle East and be a staging area for ever greater attacks against America and other civilized nations,'' the vice president said.
OK, we all know logic has no place in the Cheney/Bush space/time continuum but this is just ridiculous. Cheney was even forced at sword point to admit that Saddam had absolutely nothing to do with 9/11 yet time and again, he regurgitates this lie every time he comes back home to the nest with a worm in his beak. He can't let it be. It is the slender, only remaining bit left for him to hide behind.
One of the administration's harshest critics in recent weeks has been Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., a longtime hawk on military matters who now wants U.S. troops to pull out of Iraq.

Murtha suggested Tuesday that the administration was trying to justify the U.S. presence in Iraq by saying it was necessary to fight terrorism. Instead, Murtha said the problem was insurgents rebelling against the U.S. presence and U.S.-backed government.

``When you fight an insurgency, you have to win the hearts and minds of the (Iraqi) people, and we've lost the hearts and minds of the people,'' Murtha told NBC's ``Today'' show. Once the U.S. withdraws from Iraq, he said, the Iraqis themselves would take care of terrorist groups.
As my previous article details, we can see on the video, little boys throwing rocks at our occupying forces. They hate us. Very, very much. And for obvious good reasons!

Bush is trying his hand at speechifying. Watching him try to pull his foot out of his mouth over and over again can be amusing if one is Saddam. For Americans, it is beyond embarrassing. It is disgusting.

Hook him off the world stage! From the Washington Post:

President Bush will deliver the second in a series of four speeches on his Iraq strategy tomorrow in Washington to several hundred members of the Council on Foreign Relations -- an august group of scholars, policymakers and journalists whose Web site is an Internet hotspot for intellectual foment about foreign policy in general and Iraq in particular.

But rather than probe the group's expertise or even respond to its concerns, Bush is just using it as a backdrop.

In a sharp break with the council's own traditions, Bush is being allowed to speak -- for 50 minutes -- then leave without taking any questions.

"Obviously, we strongly suggested -- certainly made the case -- that it would be in the interest of the president and in the interest of our membership that the president take questions," council vice president for communications Lisa Shields told me this morning.
Fifty minutes of him desperately trying to regurgitate the wormy talking points his female aides have hammered into his besotted mind. Oh, what joy. I feel this is just punishment for the stupid idiots in attendance to suffer. Nearly all of them are imperialist pigs, oinking away at various feedlots like the Hudson Institute, Princeton or Yale or PNAC.

Imagine asking Bush questions. "How many beers do you drink before 4pm?" could be a great opener. "Since you want to stay the course, why can't you stay in Iraq until you succeed? And don't come back." How about, "What is 2+2?" or "How many fingers am I holding up?" Then we can see a cage filled with rats strapped to his head? Maybe that will wake him up.

The farce of having a "president" who can't give speeches or answer even childish questions is grounds for impeachment. Impeach Bush now! Impeach the entire GOP for foisting this fake upon America. And ship all their spawn to Iraq to fight. Serves them right.

Video of Angry Iraqi Children Ambushing Oil Thieves (Americans)

By Elaine Meinel Supkis

I came across this video of a truck driver in Iraq cussing and talking murderously, demanding the military machinegun small children who line the roads where he drives his truck filled with oil we are stealing. He wants to kill all of them so they will leave us alone as we take everything for ourselves. This is proof we have lost the hearts and minds of ordinary Iraqis and no wonder! Thieves are seldom beloved by those they steal from!

From Compfused: click here to see video
Sigh. We tried in vain to trick the smaller children into loving us by handing out toys and candy, corrupting them, making an end-run around their parents. I know that if some strange men with guns and cannons were to call over my children so they can lure them with candy, I would be very angry. This is also the modus operandi of child molestors. In this case, we are molesting Iraq and to do this, we need to alienate children from their mothers and be a sugar daddy to them.

Indeed, I had strict rules for my children to never ever accept candy or toys from strangers! Duh!

So here we are, three years into our occupation of a country we have no right to invade in the first place and now even the smallest children hate us heartily. It is very impressive, the number of small children, all it appears, under the age of 11, that line the highway to ambush the convoys by throwing rocks and other items. It isn't one or two but dozens in just a few minutes of video. Evidently, according to the foul mouthed driver, this is incessant now, at all times, he is pelted and he cannot understand why he is one of the most hated men in Iraq and why the populace would gladly rip him to shreds and dance on his corpse.

As we all recall, we were assured that all of Iraq would celebrate our arrival and would assist us in looting Iraq and would give us whatever we wanted, like the genie in Alladin's lamp stories.

I remember the propaganda surrounding the pulling down of Saddam's statue. A tiny crew, some of whom were bussed in from America and England, tried feebly to topple it. Then the Americans stepped in, sneering and jeering, and pulled it down. Our troops placed an American flag on the face of Saddam's statue only to be told by the political operative running the show to can it. Too late.

I could tell this was a farce without the al Jazeera film showing the empty square that all the American TV stations neglected to show, they being greater liars than Bagdad Bob. Shameless, the media presented the happy picture of Iraqis loving us.

Well, this can't even be faked anymore.

Now we learn the Pentagon lied about the soldiers who were blown up. Of course, they with held the information until after firing a missile into a village in Pakistan and then announcing we killed the eternally #3 al Qaeda genius/leader, always and forever #3! Then we amended it to "top" al Qaeda and now we are fending off accusations we actually killed some small boys. But for a few hours, Bush could puff up his birdie chest and trumped "Victory in Iraq!" even though that has nothing to do with anything sane.

So here we go, our troops that were blown up were holding a little party in an abandoned flour factory (note the missing jobs!) and one stepped on a booby trap set for them. They were not on patrol. The Pentagon lied because it would mess up the fake story about how the troops we are training in Iraq are going to make things better so our contractors and mercenaries and drive off in oil trucks while dead children can't stop them.

Gads. Someone stop this nightmare, please. It is destroying America. Speaking of witches, Condi's demands Europe shut up about our totally illegal CIA torture flights has been pretty smartly slapped down by European media who don't bay at the moon for her no matter how she snaps her tiny whip.

Time to put this cow out to pasture.

Saddam Trial Spirals Down Into Comic Opera Farce

By Elaine Meinel Supkis

Today, Saddam's lawyers walked out on the judge while Saddam yelled about how Iraq is being destroyed by American invaders. This show trial is like Brownie running the Arabian Horse Shows. A disaster. Bring on the clowns.

From Yahoo:
Saddam Hussein told the judge at his trial Monday that "I am not afraid of execution" during an unruly session in which the first witness took the stand and testified that the former president's agents carried out random arrests, torture and killings.

The outburst was one of several by Saddam or his co-defendants during the session that also saw a brief walkout by his defense lawyers.

Following the witness' testimony, Saddam defended his actions and told the court that he understood the pressures upon it in his trial. He and his seven co-defendants could be executed if convicted on the charges stemming from the deaths of more than 140 Shiites in 1982.

"When I speak, I speak like your brother — your brother in Iraq and your brother in the nation," he said, addressing the witness, Ahmed Hassan Mohammed. "I am not afraid of execution. I realize there is pressure on you and I regret that I have to confront one of my sons. But I'm not doing it for myself. I'm doing it for Iraq. I'm not defending myself. But I am defending you."

Addressing the court in general, he added: "I want you to be the shooters and the swords against the enemy army."
The minute Bush and Rummy decided to slavishly imitate Saddam they should have dropped the childish trial stuff. Obviously, charging anyone with killing or torturing anyone right now will be a farce unless Rummy and Bush and the whole neo con conclave are also in the dock, well.

We turned Saddam in to a hero. A martyr. A bearded Joan of Arc. Gads, this is beyond stupid.

It is a crime. The fact that we are being led by a worse criminal than Saddam doesn't stop our resident morons from putting more on.

From Mainichi, Japan:
A group of Iraqis opposed to Japan's military presence damaged a Japanese military vehicle in southern Iraq, the Defense Agency said Monday, as Tokyo prepared to announce whether it will extend the humanitarian mission for another year.

A mirror on an armored truck was broken Sunday when protesters threw stones outside a building repaired by Japanese troops in the town of Rumaythah near Samawah, an agency spokeswoman said on condition of anonymity in line with agency policy. No one was injured, she said, adding that no other details were immediately available.

The incident occurred a day after Japanese defense chief Fukushiro Nukaga visited the town to inspect Japanese troops and review the area's safety ahead of an expected decision to extend the mission for another year.

The troop dispatch, Japan's largest since World War II, is to expire Dec. 14, and Tokyo hasn't officially announced whether it will be extended.
The militarist, expansionist Japanese are going to feel the brunt of native hate yet again. They though they could sneak in under the American mantle and participate in moments of military glory.

And why are they painting those damn schools? Or making repairs? If foreign soldiers invaded MY little town and did this, I would blow them up. They are thieves, stealing oil, stealing jobs! The simple thing to do would be for the "allies" to pay the Iraqis to do whatever the Iraqis think should be done! Period!

Instead, they pretend to be nice, the invaders, by "fixing" stuff...And charging the Iraqis the bill! Expensive painters!

At home, the neo-fascist Americans on the right point to all the painted schools and huff that we are there to be friendly and helpful. It is pure propaganda. The Iraqis don't want us to do this, they are very much against it. We are not helping them. This isn't the Peace Corps but the Dead Corpse at work.

It should stop. Now. Today. We should be busy packing our paint brushes and folding the tarps and leaving.

The other day, Allwari was chased out of Najaf. I saw the videos. The news didn't mention that unarmed demonstrators outraged by this quisling, threw shoes at him.

In return, as he sped away in his American cars, his entourage sprayed gunfire all over the square. Great.

Now we hear of a plot to free Saddam. You can bet, he will be freed. Eventually, the trial location will be stormed and he will be carried out, a hero, or killed and become worse, an icon of Iraq. What a mess.

We lost the war, we lost the trial, we lost the battle of wits with al Qaeda. So much for going to war following a fool wearing a crown.

America Celebrates the Death of the Kyoto Accords (Suicide is Fun!)

By Elaine Meinel Supkis

The Kyoto Accords are dead. Bush and the USA killed them. We are puzzled about how to save our cities as they face certain destruction. Pay no attention! Seems like we are in for some really fun times!

From the NYT:
Today, in the middle of new global warming talks in Montreal, there is a sense that the whole idea of global agreements to cut greenhouse gases won't work.

A major reason the optimism over Kyoto has eroded so rapidly is that its major requirement - that 38 participating industrialized countries cut their greenhouse emissions below 1990 levels by the year 2012 - was seen as just a first step toward increasingly aggressive cuts.

But in the years after the protocol was announced, developing countries, including the fast-growing giants China and India, have held firm on their insistence that they would accept no emissions cuts, even though they are likely to be the world's dominant source of greenhouse gases in coming years.

Their refusal helped fuel strong opposition to the treaty in the United States Senate and its eventual rejection by President Bush.

But the current stalemate is not just because of the inadequacies of the protocol. It is also a response to the world's ballooning energy appetite, which, largely because of economic growth in China, has exceeded almost everyone's expectations. And there are still no viable alternatives to fossil fuels, the main source of greenhouse gases.

Then, too, there is a growing recognition of the economic costs incurred by signing on to the Kyoto Protocol.
We will celebrate the death of the Kyoto Accords by rebuilding New Orleans so hurricanes can destroy it all again next year. Whoopee.

This article, like nearly all the articles I read about the crisis facing humanity, namely our extinction after we destroy this one and only planet of ours, has a strong streak of fatalism. "We can't change so why bother?" seems to be the attitude of nearly all the participants as well as humans in general. Even as we utterly dominate nearly all eco-niches of the planet, we pretend more and more that we have absolutely no control over our destinies.

Like grossly overweight humans pretending they have no control over how they eat and what they eat, we in general are pretending our devouring of the earth isn't something we can alter or channel creatively. For example, energy. Everyone uses as much energy as they can access. This is human nature. Doing this is destroying the planet. Duh. So we build ever bigger, ever more energy dependent bubbles to live in so we can fend off the dire side effects as much as possible.

In heat waves, I have noted this in cities. The hot, stagnant, polluted air is nearly unbreathable. So everyone cranks up the airconditioners and this creates not only more pollution, more greenhouse gas, it even heats up the immediate neighborhood! Namely, hot air pours out of airconditioners! So on every level, it is destructive but if you don't join in and make things worse, you might die of the heat so the cycle ratchets up ever higher!

The BBC has an amusing article about a geologist trying to sell in San Francisco a book about doomed cities like the Bay Area. The author tries to calm everyone by talking about how Tokyo deals with earthquakes. Unfortunately, he doesn't tell his audience the bad news: many of the people in Tokyo lost not only all they owned but died in the last great quake there.
From the BBC:
San Francisco: A city in waiting?
By Simon Winchester
San Francisco

If you have written a book suggesting that San Francisco could soon be levelled by a massive earthquake, you may find Californians a little reluctant to accept your message. Author Simon Winchester's idea that the US of the future could contain a number of ruined and abandoned cities has met a frosty reception.
Casandra was not very popular, either. "You are doomed", isn't a great holiday greeting although I would just love to see that on Walmart banners. At least, they should tell the truth. "Abandon all hope ye who enter here" should be appropriate in mall entrances, no?

A little less than a century ago it was utterly destroyed in one of the world's most infamous earthquakes and the geologists who today study the San Andreas fault that runs underneath it predict that the time is more than ripe for a replay of that terrible event.
Denial seems a powerful component of life in seismically active parts of America
A greater than 60% chance, they say, of a big calamity in the Bay Area, sometime in the next quarter century.

This is not a message the local residents like to hear.

A week ago I was giving a talk in a bookstore on Market Street and saw a long white envelope on the podium, marked for me.

I imagined, optimistically, that it was a cheque. It turned out to be anything but: an anonymous letter, urging me to get out of town.

"You geologists," it began.

"If you can tell us we have three hours' warning, fine. But if you simply want to tell us that we live somewhere dangerous and that a quake might happen, well, we don't want to hear, thanks very much.
There are a rash of books about how civilizations collapse, how cities disappear. Comforting the people of SF by telling them Tokyo "survived" destruction...Well, they did. The Great Kanto Quake destroyed the city, killed 140,000 people and destroyed the homes of about a million people. Great. Then, 20 years later, we firebombed the place with another 150,000+ dead and millions of homes destroyed! The replacements are from the peasant outlands that were not hit by disaster.

The disaster hitting now is, the world's dispossessed and poor are multiplying rapidly and pouring into the cities at a huge rate, this is ongoing across the planet. And once in the cities, they strive as swiftly as possible to enter into and occupy the energy intensive bubble which is expanding at a tremendous rate. The Hubbert Oil Peak is nearly here. Already, all forms of energy are climbing in cost in lockstep. There is no escaping this. Any energy system that is temporarily cheaper becomes less so as it is sucked into the maw of the energy intensive bubble machine that is also sucking in the mass of humanity.

As the environment becomes more and more unstable and violent, more surivors run into the cities. All cities end up being destroyed over the long run. History tells us this. Massacres, fires, earthquakes, tidal waves, volcanoes, bombs and disease can clean out cities. One of the worse is desertifcation. This annihilates cities usually forever. They can be reestablished, note that Arizona had "cities" once, Coronado heard about them and went searching, but the cities were abandoned during the 50 drought that ravaged Arizona and New Mexico in 1200 AD. They were long empty. Now there are much bigger cities there, kept alive by water from the Rockies, water that must fall as snow and slowly perculate into the water basins, feeding them year-round. And with global warming comes no more snow in the Rockies, already the rivers are drying up in summer.

The push to solve our energy problems won't be easily solved with the present system. We will have to backtrack severely. India and China has had huge populations with little outside energy, humans carried/pushed/moved everything by hand, themselves, and died like flies but were easily replaced. Ask any slave owner. It is a cruel system which died out with the advent of easy, cheap energy.

From Yahoo:
Three months after Hurricane Katrina, we know that damage is enormous. We know that it will cost billions of dollars to rebuild New Orleans and the rest of the Gulf Coast. What we don't know is where the money will come from.

Louisiana's congressional delegation introduced legislation in September calling for a $212 billion federally funded rebuilding effort; fiscal conservatives scotched the proposal.

Even a more modest request for $32 billion to strengthen Louisiana's flood defenses so they could withstand a Category 5 hurricane — the current standard is Category 3 — has drawn a tepid response from the Bush administration.
New Orleans is a perfect example of a doomed city. Venice is doomed, too, but not to the extent of New Orleans. They don't have catagory five hurricanes in the Mediterranean. New Orleans was a tremendous community in its heyday. But it can't be simply rejiggered. With global warming, it is pretty much doomed like Alexandria. Cairo replaced that city just as some city will grow where it is more logical, too, on the Mississippi River. Some things can't be brought back.

Of course, we are spending most of our precious treasure on Iraq. So we must resign ourselves to losing a few more major cities like San Francisco in the future. And then there is the Tokyo example: much of Japanese entertainment is about how everyone in Tokyo is going to be annihilated one way or another. They are very pessimistic. And for good reason.

Fox TV's Cynical Xmas Hysteria Invades Their Business News

By Elaine Meinel Supkis

Crooks and Liars website ran the screen capture of Fox TV's "Bulls and Bears" show. It is full of unintended irony. I wonder why these fatuous, cynical people are flogging the "Liberals are killing Christmas" meme when it is them who are reducing welfare to the poor and bah-humbugging Tiny Tim all the time?

The screen crawl at the bottom is the same news service with the latest propaganda ploy in Iraq, about how "secular" Iraqis (nearly all Sunnis!) don't want a religious dictatorship. Yet the right wing bloviators are screaming at us all that the winter festivities are not everyone's but are the sole province of the born again right wing white Christians. Namely, this isn't a holiday, it is only Jesus' birthday.

This crude attempt at intimidating all of us into handing over the classic Winter Solstice to a gang of ill tempered, ill educated lunatics is really fueling bad blood in America. The world watches, agast, as we out Taliban al Qaeda. Today, in the news, the GOP is talking about which tax cuts to give to the already very rich while cutting even more services to the poor. This is the exact opposite of Jesus who was a liberal, he even had long flowing hair. And a beard. So there!

Indeed, Jesus and bin Laden, if they stood side by side, would be hard to tell apart, wouldn't they? Long robes, long hair, long beards. Yup. Twins.

"Happy Holidays" was created to be civil to all people especially Jews who have had to endure terrible progroms and attacks on Christmas and especially Easter. To recognize they would be filled with trepidation and even fear upon hearing "Merry Christmas," the tradition of not saying this to them or anyone else has arisen for good reason.

The thuggish, snappy, ill tempered attacks on us all coming from the sour faced sour pusses pushing "Merry Christmas" has driven many of us to hating those words. I know, if anyone spouts that to me this winter, I will tell them to shove it. Instead of merely ignoring the hyperfluidity of merchantalism at Christmas (yes, my son wants video games, of course!) I am now in a very bad mood.

Bah on buying stuff. My son will get his thingie but not because I love Jesus. Jesus has absolutely nothing to do with all this. Orion rules the winter skies so I will dedicate it to that constellation, not Pisces which is the one appropriated by the Jesus nuts.

To tabulate the things that aren't even remotely Christian, reindeers, pine trees, mistletoes, hog's heads, puddings and pies, cookies and taffy, feasts and costumed characters like Santa are many of the non-Christian things we attached to the winter solstice festivals. Lighting all those lights is pure paganism.

There is a Jesus thing going now: Bethlehem, which has been cut off from humanity behind tall walls, a ghetto set up to imprison the native people of the Holy Land. Isn't that charming? Tear down those walls! If "protecting" people means murdering and enslaving millions, it is totally wrong. After all, Hitler was "protecting" Germany when he murdered all those innocent people!

And of course, we are doing this, too, today, in Iraq. Which takes me back to the whole damn Christmas thing: "Peace on Earth and Good Will Towards Men." You can't buy that. It has no price. It is what Christmas was supposed to be all about.

Cost of 12 Days of Xmas Up Over 6% This Year!

By Elaine Meinel Supkis

Here is an amusing little economic chart which tracks the cost of the many gifts my true love is supposed to give to me but hasn't, obviously. Getting all those pipers and drummers can be a problem espcially is they annoy the neighbors too much.

From PNC Financial Advisors:
Annual 12 days of Christmas Inflation Index. It all started 21 years ago as a way to engage clients and has since grown into one of PNC’s most popular and anticipated economic reports: The Annual
PNC Christmas Price Index.

PNC calculates the Christmas Price Index each year as a fun, lighthearted way to look at the increasing cost of goods and services bought by the True Love in the holiday classic, “The Twelve Days of Christmas.”
An eye-opener, for sure.

We all know the feeble gauges for inflation have grossly understated the real rate of inflation and this chart shows pretty clearly how the price of gold rings and turtle doves has skyrocketed. Food, energy and precious metals are all much higher in cost. I know that inflation has been squeezing my own budget pretty hard. Local taxes are way up, too, as well as fees and costs of mechanical repairs and all other things can can be raised with impunity.

Thank you, PNC, for revealing the truth. Inflation is over 6% which means that interest rates are still "giving money away." Of course, the Japanese interest rate is 0% which is totally ridiculous. I wonder why they won't loan me any money a that rate. Har.

Well, I hope my True Love has Deep Pockets this xmas! (By the way, the 12 days gift giving is very pagan, heh!)

WORSE PRESIDENT...EVER Is Most Popular E-Mail in World

By Elaine Meinel Supkis

Hey, Bartcop! One of the very oldest websites to go after Bush like an Old Yeller, yelling about that idiot, you have started a trend....Worse President...EVER is now an universal phrase, a battle cry, a crie d' coer, our battle banner, well, today at Yahoo's "most popular stories" is "WORSE PRESIDENT...EVER."
From Yahoo, Richard Reeves:
There are some numbers. The History News Network at George Mason University has just polled historians informally on the Bush record. Four hundred and fifteen, about a third of those contacted, answered -- maybe they were all crazed liberals -- making the project as unofficial as it was interesting. These were the results: 338 said they believed Bush was failing, while 77 said he was succeeding. Fifty said they thought he was the worst president ever. Worse than Buchanan.

This is what those historians said -- and it should be noted that some of the criticism about deficit spending and misuse of the military came from self-identified conservatives -- about the Bush record:

He has taken the country into an unwinnable war and alienated friend and foe alike in the process;

He is bankrupting the country with a combination of aggressive military spending and reduced taxation of the rich;

He has deliberately and dangerously attacked separation of church and state;

He has repeatedly "misled," to use a kind word, the American people on affairs domestic and foreign;

He has proved to be incompetent in affairs domestic (New Orleans) and foreign ( Iraq and the battle against al-Qaida);

He has sacrificed American employment (including the toleration of pension and benefit elimination) to increase overall productivity;

He is ignorantly hostile to science and technological progress;

He has tolerated or ignored one of the republic's oldest problems, corporate cheating in supplying the military in wartime.
They leave out "a war criminal on the same level as Hitler" and "Dumber than Hitler and Pol Pot" and "can't win negotiation points with the crazed dictator of North Korea even after forcing him to do it in English".

Bartcop rulz!
Subject: Bartcop sign spotted

Saw one of your posters on NBC's Today show this morning.
Got a little thrill out of it.

Keep up the good work,

Cody, thanks for that.
Bartcop has been handing out the "Worst President...EVER" signs and stickers since Bush first headed towards the White House. He has been at this for years and years and years and from day one, was right about this and will always be right about this. The only way old Bart can be proven wrong would be for Americans to put Jebby into the White House.

The fact they let Batty Babs in was a mistake.

Rewarding Prescott, "Heil Hitler" Bush with public office was a big mistake.

Traitors. Arrest them all. Go, Bartcop! Yazzah.
